Cryotherapy – Stimuli From the Cold Chamber

Short, intense cold stimuli lead to amazing effects. Exposure to extreme cold for 30 seconds to three minutes in a cold chamber is enough to curb inflammatory processes in the body, strengthen the immune system and loosen tense muscles. Top athletes have been using cold therapy for a long time to take their performance and regeneration ability to a new level.

Thermogenesis in the cold chamber

The principle behind cryotherapy

When you spend time in cold water or reduce your body temperature with cold packs, your body is forced to produce heat. This process, called thermogenesis, burns fat and stimulates the release of proteins that burn glycogen from the muscles. When there is no more glycogen in the muscles, the body receives the signal to increase the production of testosterone and growth hormones. This leads to a number of positive effects:

  • Lower inflammation levels

  • Reduced insulin sensitivity

  • Stimulates autophagy

  • Weak damaged cells and mitochondria die …

  • … and make room for new, healthy cells and mitochondria.

Enjoy cryotherapy with our cold chamber

The cold chamber at the Swiss Center for Health & Longevity is one of the most powerful devices currently on the market. A short stay in it leads to more physical and mental energy. It strengthens your immune system and has a positive effect on your health.

Effects of cryotherapy in the cold chamber

Studies show that the body regenerates faster after a hard workout or competition thanks to the cold chamber and that injuries – even after operations – heal faster and form fewer scars. This is because cold stimulates the main switch of our energy metabolism, PGC- 1-alpha, which not only activates our mitochondria, but can also stimulate the increased formation of mitochondria. There is also evidence that therapy in the cold chamber can improve thyroid function and help with weight loss.

Three minutes
at around minus 160°C in our cold chamber burns up to 1000 kcal.

Cryotherapy also stimulates the release of noradrenaline. This inhibits pain and signals the body to produce more antioxidants.

Cryotherapy Cold Chamber

Cold chamber or ice bath?

In Zurich, you see lots of people swimming in the ice-cold Lake Zurich in winter. Clever! They have long since discovered the beneficial effects of cryotherapy and use it for their health. Even bathing in water that is around 15 degrees cold is a great stimulus for the mitochondria.

For those who are not comfortable with bathing in ice-cold water and want to enjoy the full effect of cryotherapy under medical supervision, the Swiss Center for Health and Longevity offers perhaps the most luxurious form of icy therapy.

Take advantage of the cryotherapy!

Noradrenaline is a natural “feel-good” hormone. Low levels are associated with depression. High levels with high mood. While you are in the cryochamber, your body releases 3-5 times the normal amount of noradrenaline. Reason to be happy.

You will also feel wonderfully refreshed afterwards. Once cryotherapy is synonymous with alertness, focused behavior and increased energy levels.

Increased fat burning rate and energy turnover? This combinatorial effect was previously only known from sport! If you have been looking for another method to improve your body performance, cryotherapy and repeated short stays in the cold chamber are definitely the right choice.

Consistent use of our cold chamber can significantly increase the number of mitochondria in your cells. In addition, you burn between 500 and 1000 calories – depending on your size, age and weight – during thermal equalization after the cold chamber.

This “after-burn” phase can last up to six hours. During the after-burn, the metabolism switches to maximum performance, which rapidly increases fat burning.

The vagus nerve remains more active with the help of cryotherapy – i.e. the so-called vagus tone is increased.

The vagus nerve is an important part of the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation and shutting down the body’s systems. It is, so to speak, the antagonist to constant stress.

A high vagal tone ensures that you become more stress-resistant and relax more quickly in stressful situations. This aspect is particularly important for general performance.

People with a high vagal tone generally have better blood sugar levels and an even distribution of energy throughout the day. People with low vagal tone are more likely to suffer from chronic silent inflammation – one of the main factors in aging.

The body’s reaction to the extreme cold that you are exposed to during cryotherapy in the cold chamber is to contract the muscles and increase blood circulation.

What follows is a true chain reaction of positive effects that help you sleep better at the end of the day.
